This activity is the first in a series of activities planned by PSITE for this year. After our planning session and induction last month, we have agreed (also during the first board meeting of PSITE) that this year is going to be PSITE's faculty development year, and all our efforts are focused on faculty development.
Standardization of IT proficiency skills is one of the projects that has to be done not just by PSITE but on a national scale. After this activity, we are planning a seminar workshop on IT curricula. We also plan to have a national IT student congress sometime in September, a conference on IT education sometime in October, and computer science research some time in December. We have planned many big activities for PSITE, aside from smaller activities like outreach programs to areas where we haven't had any activity in the past. Chapter development remains as one of the priorities. I believe that most of you are from the NCR, and perhaps it might be fitting to think of organizing an NCR meeting or conference to plan that out perhaps sometimes next month with you as founding members.
So setting IT proficiency standards has been identified by ITEC as one of the important projects that have to be done. Towards that goal one of the efforts by the JITSE Phil Foundation is the pushing for a Philippine ITSE to be declared a standard by the Bureau of Products and Standards, and JITSE has already a lot of gain in that area.
During this meeting, let's talk about standards - what can be done, what should be done - but let's keep in mind that together with the standards our biggest concern remains the same - upgrading the teaching of IT, upgrading the competencies of university instructors, and that will be our main objectives for this year.
