Thanks are owed all around.
My ever-patient and helpful mentor Paul Wilson helped me get through three versions of the speech: two in front of the Toastmasters and one on the way to the contest. Fortunately, he didn't have to suffer through the six other versions I recorded for practice last night. I owe him the clothes joke.
I couldn't have done it without Greg's advice, either. He gave me a lot of tips on how to speak humorously, and I even used one or two of his jokes. I owe him the survey joke.
The contest was totally fun. Scary as heck--I was trembling before, during and after the thing--but look! I got my voice under control! And I didn't speak too quickly! And I didn't step on laughter _all_ the time! Wheee!
